DiPaola had been the subject of a front-page Boston Globe story reporting that he planned to both collect his salary and a nearly $100,000 annual pension beginning in January.

Koutoujian, 49, will serve until the next statewide election in 2012.

He is a Democrat from Waltham who was a Middlesex County prosecutor before being elected to the Legislature in 1996. He has a wife and three young children.
