Curious What A State Of Emergency Means

BOSTON (CBS) - Emergency officials are gearing up for the Nor'easter that will hit the area early Wednesday, and one tool the governor has is to declare a State of Emergency.

But, there's a lot of confusion about what that actually means.

Redericka from Malden Declared her Curiosity saying, "I'm told (a State of Emergency) means no driving on roads for non-emergency personnel."

A State of Emergency does not automatically ban travel or order private businesses or even schools to shut down. Only under the most extreme circumstances can the governor order that. Wednesday's storm won't fall into that category.

The emergency declaration allows the governor to mobilize resources and is the first step in asking the federal government for help.
