New UMass President Could Be Chosen Soon

BOSTON (AP) -- The University of Massachusetts could have a new leader in place by the end of the week.

A search committee on Thursday is scheduled to conduct second interviews with several of the top candidates to succeed Jack Wilson as president of the five-campus UMass system.

After the interviews, the committee may announce finalists to present to the university's board of trustees.

And if that happens, the trustees would convene later on Thursday to possibly decide on a new president.

Wilson is stepping down June 30 after nearly eight years of leading the 66,000-student, $2.8 billion system.
