Quincy Woman Robbed, Assaulted Near T Stop

QUINCY (CBS) -- A 38-year-old Quincy woman was robbed and seriously injured as she walked to her home from the Wollaston MBTA stop Tuesday night.

May Deng says she was just putting in the key to open the front door to her Taylor Street home when she was grabbed from behind. The attacker had passed her on the sidewalk then suddenly turned back.

"He pulled me down, pulled my head, pulled me to the ground and I hit my head," said Deng. Her head hit the ground as he made off with her wallet, but not before showing a knife and holding it to her stomach.

"I was screaming," she said, but the thief made off quickly before anyone heard her.

The attack sounded too familiar to commuters who walk a similar route from the T stop.

They're concerned about assaults and robberies in the neighborhood that spiked last summer.

"What just happened last night is not the first time, it's happening more and more," said Anita Yu. Quincy resident Tom Collins believes the MBTA riders are an easy target. "That's what they do, they wait until someone walks from the train station, then get them down in the darker side streets," he said.

May Deng was hospitalized overnight for her head injuries, and now says her experience will keep her from walking the few blocks to the train for awhile.

With a hood over his head, Deng says she didn't get a look at the assailant. Only that he was wearing dark clothing and wasn't very tall.
