The Polar Bear Plunge - Why Not?

BOSTON (CBS) – If you're thinking about trying something new for the New Year, how about the Polar Bear Plunge?

The L Street Brownies will hold their annual cold weather cold water swim Saturday at 10 a.m. at the L Street Bath House in South Boston.

WBZ News Radio anchor Rod Fritz will be there.

He's done it six times already.

"I must do it every year. I like the atmosphere. I like the camaraderie that everyone has who goes there," Fritz said.

"It's an event that, once you finished it, you can say that you've accomplished it."

Fritz has some advice for first timers.

Don't wear a Speedo, wear regular swim trunks and a bathing cap or hat.

Also have something on your feet because the sand on the beach is hard and could cut you.

The doors open at 8 a.m.
