Man Who Fooled Harvard Had Error-Riddled Resume

BOSTON (AP) -- The resume and other application materials a Delaware man used to dupe Harvard University into admitting him was rife with inconsistencies overlooked by the Ivy League college's admissions staff.

The Boston Globe, which obtained a copy of Adam Wheeler's application, reported Tuesday that a forged recommendation letter said Wheeler enrolled at prestigious Phillips Andover prep school as a junior. The accompanying transcript indicated he attended for four years.

A grade report from the College Board shows that the Milton, Del. man earned the highest marks on 16 advanced placement exams. Most students take only one or two.

Wheeler's lawyer says Harvard bears some responsibility.

A Harvard spokesman says the university has toughened its applicant screening process.

Wheeler was sentenced to 10 years of probation and ordered to pay $46,000 in restitution.
