Woburn Police Officer Killed During Kohl’s Robbery

WOBURN (CBS) – A Woburn police officer was shot and killed Sunday night, during an attempted armed robbery at a Kohl’s department store.

Three men robbed the jewelry counter of the store on Washington Street just before 9 p.m., in the middle of the blizzard.

WBZ-TV’s Alana Gomez reports

Police responded and shots were exchanged. According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, one officer was killed during that gunfire. His name is not being released until family members are notified.

Massachusetts State Police said one suspect was also killed; two others fled and were later captured by police.

“This is a horribly tragic incident in which an officer was fatally shot in the line of duty,” District Attorney Gerry Leone said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Officer’s family at this time.”

I hope the station can spare a bit of time to let us know if there’s a fund being set up for the family. That poor family. God be with them.

A police officer has been killed in the line of duty and the only coverage online is a little blip halfway down the homepage. Nothing in the news reports on tv. Why? Because we have snow in new england. Shame on all the reporters and managers who decide what is important. There was no need to nonstop coverage of an event that happens EVERY year since the beginning of time.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of this slain officer.

  14. Jean says:

Susan M, they are not desperate; they are pieces of trash who want something for nothing. Desperate is stealing food and diapers so you can take care of your family. Stealing from the jewelry counter is an act of selfish criminals who probably have never earned an honest dollar in their entire lives.

  15. Brian says:

Great job WBZ a hero is killed in the line of duty and you hardly acknowledge it. By the way did we get any snow?

  16. Kare says:

WBZ-TV, A hero is killed in the line of duty and you make heros out of snow plow drivers??????? God Rest the police officer’s soul andprayers to his family and friends. As for the creeps desperate; to have something for nothing – get a job OR don’t crave what you cannot afford – just like the rest of us!!!

  17. Brian says:

Disgusted with WBZ TV news. I watched the 5pm news and turned it off at 5:34 still not having been informed about that poor Woburn Police Officer that was killed in the line of duty. Shame on you for continuing to harp on and on about a snow storm. I changed the channel back and forth hoping to find out what happened and at 5:11 the news about the Mass Police Officer was reported on the NH news station. Shame on you for wasting all that time about a storm that unless you live in a windowless cube the people know all about it.

  18. Brian says:

I will not watch your news channel anymore and will also let the newspapers in the Boston area know how you cared more about the damn storm, then to report on that Police Officers passing. I understand you may have reported it earlier in the day, what I am talking about, is wasting all that time on the storm especially since it causes nothing but misery for everyone.
