Councilor's Car Involved In Lawrence Hit And Run

LAWRENCE (CBS) -- Police say the Chevy Avalanche that smashed into another vehicle on Merrimack Street in Lawrence Friday night belongs to Newburyport City Councilor Allison Heartquist.

Police say the suspected driver in the car tried to flee the scene on foot.

Police tell WBZ News Radio that the truck was not reported missing. "We asked where her vehicle was, she said her husband had it," said Lawrence police Chief John Romero. "He was attending a party – some type of Christmas party in Lawrence. At that point, we indicated to her that her car had been involved in an accident."

WBZ News Radio's Bernice Corpuz reports.

Police are talking to Heartquist's husband, Richard, but they are not naming him as a suspect at this time.

The driver of the other car was treated for minor head and leg injuries.
