Bones Found In Canton Likely Animal Bones

CANTON (CBS) -- A state police dog that was participating in training Thursday afternoon alerted on some bones in a wooded area off Royall Street in Canton. Authorities were not initially sure if they were human bones.

After several hours of investigation they determined the bones are most likely animal bones.

State police say around 1 p.m. the K9 Section was holding a training session in a wooded area when the dog alerted.

Additional troopers and evidence technicians were called in, and the area was mapped out before crews started digging.

The bones will be taken to the medical examiner's office for further examination and to confirm they are not human.
