Clinton Football Players Charged With Beating Up Teen

CLINTON (CBS) -- Eight Clinton High School students and members of the football team stand charged in connection with the beating of an Assabet Technical High School senior.

It happened after Clinton beat Hudson in the High School Super Bowl on December 4.

Some Clinton football players allegedly decided to throw a party at the home of Mark Elworthy, the former chairman of the Clinton Board of Selectmen. Police say there was alcohol at this party.

The victim, 18-year-old Cody Riekstins, was at the party because he dates the sister of someone on the team.

He tells WBZ that he was arguing with his girlfriend when all of a sudden eight players jumped on him and began kicking, punching, and beating him.

WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports.

A neighbor found Cody lying in the street unconscious several houses away from the party.

Former selectman Elworthy is also being charged under the state's social host law for allegedly allowing minors to have access to alcohol, even though he tells WBZ he wasn't home when the party started and he stoped it as soon as he returned.
