Newton North Locked Down After Gun Scare

NEWTON (CBS) – Newton North High School was locked down for about an hour Monday morning while police investigated a report of a student with a gun.

Dr. Paul Stein, deputy superintendent of schools, told WBZ-TV a female student saw a male student with a gun and reported it to a member of the school staff.

WBZ-TV’s Jim Armstrong reports.

Police were called in and the school was locked down from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The student was not found and neither was the gun.

No one was hurt and Stein said no threats were made.

Police will stay at the school for the rest of the day.

It should read ” a female student saw a cigarette lighter and freaked out”. This is only one more overeaction to a simple situation. I have never seen so much panic in this country over the most trivial issue. A kid can write a simple threat on a bathroom mirror and the school shuts down. The kid wins and he gets to go home. I can’t wait to see what these leaders will do when a serious situation takes place and a snap decision is necessary.
