WOBURN (CBS) — A Woburn company, Terrafugia, has been named part of a team that is designing a flying car for combat, designed to rumble over rough terrain and then fly off at a moment’s notice.

The federal agency that developed the Internet — Darpa (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) — is launching the $56 million design program for what has been code-named “Transformer.”

The Defense Department says Terrafugia’s designs for a flying car will dovetail with this Defense Department application which will be developed over the next five years. Textron is the major contractor for the project.

WBZ News Radio’s Anthony Silva speaks with Terrafugia CEO Carl Dietrich about the flying car for combat.
