BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is not expected be released from the hospital at least until Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the mayor said Friday that Menino will remain at Brigham and Women’s Hospital with septic bursitis and cellulitis in his left elbow.

Doctors believe Menino developed the infection after scraping his elbow during a visit last weekend to Italy, where he was attending a conference.

He is being treated with antibiotics and had a small operation to drain fluid from his arm.

The 67-year-old Menino is the longest-serving mayor in the city’s history.

He was re-elected a year ago to his fifth four-year term.

I wish Mayor Menino well. I also wish I had his health insurance coverage.

I heard he injured his elbow throwing back a few at The Cornerstone. That can’t be true…… He wouldn’t dare go to Southie. Not after his St.Patricks Parade fiasco.

Infection on an “ionic” level perhaps?

Well this story is a huge waste of time and should not have been reported on. The mayor like the rest of us should have been given the usual antibiotics and sent home. I am so sick and tired of anyone from City Hall to the white house getting preferential treatment. And no they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DESERVE anything more than what we get. So Mr. Mayor you have real work to do like i dont know clean up your city for once. Its a scarey place to go yet so many places to see, people are afraid so work on that and lets talk about your ailments NEVER
