Paul Edwards is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; assault with intent to murder; possession of a dangerous weapon; and vandalism.

Patrolman Keith Cloutier said Edwards shot a crossbow through the car's passenger window as it was driving down Haggerty Road just before 2:30 p.m. Friday.

There were two 16-year-old boys in the car. The passenger told police he was hit with glass from the window, but he refused medical treatment.

They gave a description of the suspect to police and told them he ran into the woods.

Cloutier explained they got information to investigate Edwards, who lives nearby, and after talking with him at his home he led police to a crossbow which was hidden in the woods.

Edwards' father told WBZ-TV his son was buying marijuana from the teens in the car when they took off with his money.

"This is a very dangerous weapon, in fact, they don't even use these for hunting in the area. These projectiles come out with such force and such speed it would go through a bulletproof vest," said Cloutier.

"I'd consider them very lucky. If this had struck one of them anywhere on their body it could have injured them very severely if not killed them."
