BOSTON (CBS) – Free agent catcher Victor Martinez has agreed to a deal with the Detroit Tigers, according to published reports.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and the Boston Globe have confirmed a report out of Venezuela that Martinez won’t be coming back to the Red Sox and will sign with the Tigers for four years and $50 million.

According to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com, the Red Sox had two final offers to Martinez – a three-year, $36 million deal or a four-year deal for $42 million.

The Tigers reported deal averages out to $12.5 million a year.  The Red Sox three-year deal came out to $12 million a season, while the four-year offer averaged $10.5 million.
