Pregnant Woman Hit By Car, Killed In Hyannis
HYANNIS (CBS) — With tears in his eyes, Jonathon Reed returns to the spot and lays flowers where his girlfriend was killed in Hyannis. “I gave her a kiss goodbye… I just knew something was wrong,” Reed said.
Thirty-two-year-old Jennifer Joseph was seven months pregnant. On Friday night, she was walking home from the mall when she was struck by a car crossing busy Route 28.
Joseph and her baby were killed. “I’ll never forget the look on her face when she found out we were having a boy. She was just so happy,” said Reed.
Right now it’s unclear how she was struck. Reed says he received a text message from her minutes before she was hit. “She was in pretty bad shape,” said Barnstable Police Department Sgt. Ben Baxter. “She was transported to Cape Cod Hospital. They did the best they could to try and save the baby.”
Many neighbors say people drive too fast down Route 28 and it’s poorly lit. “It’s very hard to cross there. There’s no cross walk here and it’s barely lit. There was no lighting for quite some time in fact they just fixed it today,” neighbor Neil Josefiak said.
Now, with friends by his side, Reed honors Joseph’s memory the best way he knows how… “She was just the perfect woman I ever could’ve met. She had a heart of gold.”
The driver is not currently facing any charges. Police say it does not appear that speed, alcohol or drugs were involved.
Joseph was also the mother of a 3-year-old girl.
