Wounded Somerville Cop To Come Home

BOSTON (CBS) - The Somerville police detective who was shot several times last week is being released from the hospital.

Det. Mario Oliveira, a nine-year veteran of the force, was part of a group of local and federal agents executing an arrest warrant on Gibbens Street the night of Tuesday, November 2.

Police say that's when Matthew Krister, 21, of Somerville allegedly opened fire, hitting Oliveira three times at close range.

Officers returned fire, killing Krister.

Det. Oliveira, 42, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he has been recovering.

He will be released Thursday.

Det. Oliveira was named Officer of the Year in 2005. He is married and has three-year-old son.
