Amazon Stops Selling Pedophile's Guide

UPDATE 11/11 8:00 am: Amazon pulled the book from its site early Thursday morning.

BOSTON (CBS) - "I was shocked, I was horrified, I was disgusted," that's how 24-year-old Courtney Buckley responded after seeing a book for sale on Amazon.com.

The book she's talking about is "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure, a Child-lover's Code of Conduct" that is being sold as a self published book.

"People who are going to want to read this book shouldn't be on Amazon shopping for a book on how to commit pedophilia they should be getting help from a doctor or in jail, rotting in jail," says Buckley.

Amazon is defending the book's sale by releasing a statement, which in part reads, "Amazon believes it is censorship to sell certain books…Amazon does not support or promote hatred or criminal acts."

Amazon may be confused because pedophilia is a crime as Marylou Sudders the President and CEO of Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children points out.

"I want to be really clear, pedophilia is nothing more than sexual crimes against children," she said. "Everyone should be expressing their outrage at this.  It is a bad business decision and Amazon should do the right thing and pull this book immediately."

Expressing outrage is happening in a number of ways.  Amazon has more than 1,000 people who have sounded off telling them to yank the book and some saying they will never use Amazon again.

Facebook and Twitter are also alive with people calling for a boycott.

For Buckley her anger about this issue is personal, "I'm a survivor of sexual abuse.  I was abused when I was 12.  I'm all for free speech but where do we draw the line?  I could go out and write a book about blowing up an airplane or how to bully kids in school successfully would that be published?"

As we head into the busiest shopping season of the year, many are hoping that Amazon will take this book off the virtual shelf.
