Turner Asks For Help To Keep City Council Seat
BOSTON (AP) - Convicted felon Chuck Turner is asking supporters to help him keep his seat on the Boston City Council.
In a Sunday e-mail, Turner said he wouldn't appeal his conviction.
But he wants backers to write letters to U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Woodlock asking him to sentence Turner to probation.
And Turner wants letters sent to City Council President Michael Ross, asking him to delay any action against Turner until after the sentencing in January.
Ross has said he wants to act in two weeks.
Turner was convicted Friday of taking a $1,000 bribe and lying about it during a corruption investigation that also snared former state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson.
Turner said in the e-mail he's closing his Dudley Square office immediately. Constituents can still see him at City Hall.
