Patriots Hold On To Beat Vikings 28-18

FOXBOROUGH (AP) — Tom Brady outscrambled Brett Favre, then kept the ball away from Tarvaris Jackson when Favre was knocked out of the game, and the New England Patriots held on to beat the Minnesota Vikings 28-18 on Sunday.

Brady scrambled free to find Brandon Tate breaking free behind the defense for a 65-yard touchdown to give the Patriots the lead in the third quarter. BenJarvus Green-Ellis’ first touchdown, a 13-yard run, made it 21-10.

Favre drove Minnesota to the New England 3 yard-line before he was flattened by defensive lineman Myron Pryor. Jackson relieved him and threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Naufahu Tahi on the first play, then hit Percy Harvin for the 2-point conversion that made it 21-18.

But Brady engineered a 13-play, 80-yard drive, with Green-Ellis getting cartwheeled into the end zone to make it 28-18 with just 1:56 left.

They didn’t “beat up on Favre”. The hit he took was completely legit. He was first hit in the chest and, unfortunately for him, the continuation of the play caused him to be hit in the chin. Football is not a contact sport, its a collision sport. How did you feel when Brady went out with a knee injury in ’08? Did you think the Chiefs beat up on him? That’s the way the game goes and the players know it.

As a fan of the Minnesota Vikings I agree we looked terrible as a team. The Pats beat us fair and square, no question. But aside from the loss – after all no one wants to get beaten – I was frankly disgusted to see a photo taken from the field of Brett Favre begin carted off with what we all speculated could have been a broken jaw and in obvious pain only to see the fans in the stands taking photos, laughing, taunting and clapping furiously. Do your fans have no class? What happened to common decency and sportsmanship? You may not like the man or the fact that he is in personal trouble (which none of us in MN condone), but to see someone in obvious pain with a potentially serious injury and then jeer and laugh at him is reprehensible. The team’s owner, Mr Kraft, seems like a genuinely classy guy. Why can’t the team’s fans also show some of that same spirit? A game is a just a game after all. The hits some of these guys take can create a lifetime’s worth of pain. C’mon Man, grow up!
