BOSTON (AP) – A federal jury is deliberating corruption charges against a Boston city councilor accused of accepting a $1,000 bribe and lying to the FBI.
Councilor Chuck Turner has denied accepting the bribe from a businessman who wanted help in getting a liquor license.
The businessman, who was cooperating with the FBI, testified that he gave the money to Turner during a 2007 meeting.
Turner, a longtime community activist and city councilor, denied the allegations and took the witness stand to defend himself.
Turner is charged with attempted extortion and three counts of making false statements.
The jury began deliberating on Thursday.
