Car Crashes Into Charles River In West Roxbury

WEST ROXBURY (CBS) - A car went into the Charles River near an auto dealership in West Roxbury Thursday morning.

State police say an elderly woman drove off the VFW Parkway and crashed into a shallow part of the river near Prime Toyota.

Boston EMS told WBZ-TV two people were in the car.  The driver was taken to the hospital.

It's not clear yet what caused the accident.

An unidentified witness told WBZ-TV the car had been in a fender-bender moments before it wound up in the river.

"The lady in the white car, she either had it in park or neutral, I'm not sure which and she floored the gas, then put it in drive and off she went.  She managed to miss the crew I had working doing signs.  They all scattered."
