Turner Wraps Up Final Day Of Testimony In Corruption Case
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner got hugs of support as he left Boston Federal Court Wednesday morning. This was his second and final day on the witness stand.
Under cross examination, 70-year-old Turner continued to say he does not remember a secretly videotaped meeting with FBI informant Ron Wilburn in August 2007.
Prosecutors allege Turner took a $1,000 bribe from Wilburn in exchange for help gaining a liquor license.
Today, federal prosecutors zeroed in on the FBI videotape, questioning why Turner does not appear to look at what was given to him.
Turner called it a "preacher's handshake," adding that it's a tradition not to look at whatever contribution a church member may make.
WBZ News Radio's Carl Stevens talked to people in Turner's council district about what they think of the city councilor, now that he's on trial.

The Boston city councilor would not concede that money was passed between him and Wilburn during the recorded meeting, even disagreeing with the prosecutors over whether the item given to him is green. Turner said it was gray.
Turner's attorney, Barry Wilson, who did not want his client to testify, did not call any other witnesses to the stand. "When you get up there and describe as Mr. Turner did, there is only one conclusion you can reach… he's gotta be telling the truth."
