Bruins sign Chara to 7 year extension

Four-time All-Star Zdeno Chara has signed a seven-year contract extension that would keep him with the Boston Bruins through the 2018-19 season.
General manager Peter Chiarelli announced the deal Saturday, before the Bruins played the Phoenix Coyotes in the Czech Republic. Chara is originally from neighboring Slovakia.
At 6-foot-9, Chara is the tallest player in NHL history. The 33-year-old captain is starting his 13th NHL season and fifth with Boston, where he won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman two years ago. He's coming off a season in which he scored seven goals and led the Bruins with a plus-19 rating.
The two-time Olympian has played in 847 regular-season games, scoring 111 goals with 252 assists.
