Felger & Mazz On: The Randy Moss Smear Campaign

With the departure of Randy Moss from the Patriots Wednesday, rumors of discontent in the locker room as a result of his behavior popped up all over the place. Felger & Mazz weigh on the question of who is leaking these stories, and whether or not Moss's press conference will highlight negative aspects of his experience with the organization.

Felger: "A lot of people think that there is a whispering campaign going on with Randy Moss – and it is honestly the exact opposite. Not only are the Patriots not smearing Randy, they are doing the opposite. They are going out of their way to tell us how good of a teammate he was. But you know why: That's their contractual agreement- the organization takes the high road, and so does he. So Randy's press conference at 3pm will be one big bouquet of flowers. I will be stunned if he says one half-negative thing about the Patriots. Bill had to realize that this was not going to end well, it just a matter of time before it gets real bad. But at the end of the year, I believe we will all be on the same side. This team on the field will be better with out him, and I think that they will be.

Mazz: "My guess as to what happens is that it was ugly at the beginning, and then everybody smooths it over – and everything is flowers and candy. But listen, I'm not saying that the Patriots are any guiltier than Randy Moss in this situation. Randy Moss is going to do the same thing, somebody who is his ally will leak a negative story. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist to believe this sort of thing. Don't take it personally, but I just don't believe it…I think we've both worked here long enough to know how this type of thing operates. It will never end smoothly here, particularly with the Patriots."
