Ban on texting behind the wheel takes effect
It's now illegal in Massachusetts to text message and surf the Internet on a cell phone while driving.
The new law that took effect Thursday also bans anyone under 18 from talking on a cell phone while driving. Violators will face fines ranging from $100 for a first offense and up to $500 for repeat offenses.
