Take-back drug disposal program comes to town
Police departments and other agencies across New England are taking part in a nationwide prescription drug "take-back" program this weekend that will offer people a chance to safely dispose of medicines.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is leading the collection of unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday. The pills will later be destroyed. The DEA is working with state and local law enforcement and public health partners to collect and dispose of the drugs.
The service is free and anonymous. Local collection sites are listed on the DEA's website. Collection activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at thousands of sites throughout the country.
