One dead, three hurt in crash in Palmer

PALMER, Mass. (AP) - One woman is dead and three others have been hurt in a two-vehicle crash in Palmer.

Police say the crash at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday shut down Route 20 for about five hours and the Jaws of Life were needed to free occupants of both vehicles.

The driver and passenger in one vehicle were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Police say the a58-year-old male driver of the second vehicle was also taken to Baystate while his 45-year-old female passenger was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The victims' names were not immediately released and the crash remains under investigation.
