A Massachusetts State Police trooper was injured on Rt. 195 westbound in Mattapoisett after his cruiser was rear-ended by a car at a work detail Wednesday morning around 8:30 a.m.

The trooper was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the male driver of the car that struck the cruiser after 20 minutes.
He was also transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
One lane of Rt. 195 westbound was closed for over two hours as State Police reconstructed and photographed the scene.
There was one unconfirmed report from the accident scene that the driver of the vehicle that struck the police cruiser may have fallen asleep.
