No vote from Cahill

Gubernatorial candidate Timothy Cahill has decided not to vote in the Massachusetts Democratic primary, saying he's concerned it would compromise his ability to run as an independent in November's general election.

Secretary of State William Galvin says he repeatedly told Cahill's campaign that voting Tuesday would not affect Cahill's independent status. But Cahill said in a statement Tuesday he was concerned about rumors of a legal challenge.

Cahill is a former Democrat running against the Democratic incumbent, Gov. Deval Patrick, as well as Republican Charles Baker and Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein. The Quincy resident says he had planned to vote in the Democratic primary because of local races that concerned him.
