Boston archdiocese ordains 2 new bishops

File

Boston's Roman Catholic Cardinal Sean O'Malley has ordained two new bishops in a ceremony he called "a moment of great celebration."  O'Malley ordained The Rev. Arthur Kennedy and The Rev. Peter Uglietto as auxiliary bishops on Tuesday at Boston's Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

The cardinal commended the men for their commitment during a service the archdiocese said was attended by nearly 2,000.

Bishop Kennedy will continue to serve as rector of St. John's Seminary. Bishop Uglietto becomes the auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese's north region.

Kennedy said he accepted the appointment with "honor and fidelity," and thanked O'Malley for his trust in running the seminary.

Uglietto said the ordination was not about Kennedy or him, but about Jesus Christ and his mission to bring reconciliation and ensure the church's future.
