State police are promising a crackdown on drunken driving over the holiday weekend.

The traffic programs officer of State Police Troop B is holding a news conference on Thursday in Northampton to detail the department’s Labor Day enforcement.

Police will be increasing patrols over the weekend as part of its ongoing Operation Lightning initiative.

Police say more drivers are on the road on the holiday weekend, bringing a heightened risk of drunken drivers.
