College move-in day traffic restrictions

Many Boston neighborhoods will be bustling over the next several days as college students move in.  As a result, traffic will be heavier than usual on some Boston streets over the next few days.

The City of Boston is advising drivers to be patient with other drivers, watch out for pedestrians in the roadway and to pay close attention to posted temporary parking restrictions.

To facilitate the move-in process, the City is implementing a number of temporary traffic and parking restrictions.

In Brighton, the following streets will be one-ways on Wednesday, September 1, from 7 AM to 7 PM, to accommodate the flow of traffic and the parking of moving vans.

·Pratt Street, will be one-way from Linden Street to Ashford Street
·Ashford Street, will be one-way from Linden Street to Melvern Street
·Chester Street, will be one-way from Ashford Street to Brighton Avenue

In Mission Hill, "Tow Zone No Stopping Boston Police Special Event Wednesday 9am to 6pm temporary parking restrictions will be in effect on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, on the following streets:

·Bucknam Street, west side, odd side, Lawn Street to Fisher Avenue
·Calumet Street, south side, odd side, from Pequot Street to Hillside Street
·Cherokee Street, south side, even side, from Pontiac Street to Hillside Street
·Darling Street, east side, even side, from Calumet Street to Hillside Street
·Eldora Street, south side, even side, Sunset Street to Hillside Street
·Fisher Avenue, north side, odd side, Bucknam Street to opposite #256 Fisher Avenue
·Hillside Street, north side, odd side, from Parker Hill Avenue to Parker Street
·Iroquois Street, north side, odd side, Sachem Street to Calumet Street
·Judge Street, west side, odd side, Parker Hill Avenue to Iroquis Street
·Lawn Street, north side, odd side, from Estrey Street to Bucknam Street
·Oswald Street, west side, odd side, from Calumet Street to Hillside Street
·Pequot Street, north side, odd side, Wait Street to Calumet Street
·Pontiac Street, west side, odd side, from Tremont Street to Hillside Street
·Sachem Street, west side, odd side, from Parker Hill Avenue to Calumet Street
·Saint Alphonsus Street, west side, odd side, from Alleghany Street to Calumet Street

In addition, Tow Zone No Stopping Wednesday temporary parking restrictions will be in effect on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the following location.

·Parker Hill Avenue, west side, odd side, from Huntington Avenue to Hillside Street.

In the Northeastern University area, Tow Zone No Parking 7 AM to 5 PM September 2 through September 5 temporary parking restrictions will be in effect.

·Hemenway Street, north side, from the Forsyth Institute Parking Lot (near Fencourt Road) to the alley opposite Symphony Road
·Forsyth Street, both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Hemenway Street
·Opera Place, both sides, from Huntington Avenue to Saint Stephen Street
·Saint Stephen Street, north side, Opera Place to Gainsborough Street

Also, temporary Tow Zone No Stopping 7am to 5pm Sunday September 5 signs will be posted at the following location.

·Coventry Street, west side, from Tremont Street to Columbus Avenue

Drivers are advised to watch for temporary parking restrictions posted at a number of other locations as well.  These are the result of the hundreds of moving permits that have recently been issued to private citizens or businesses that properly completed the City of Bostons Street Occupancy Permit process.
