Wiffle Ball tourney benefits soldiers' kids

A charity Wiffle Ball tournament is scheduled in Westfield this weekend to benefit the children of Massachusetts military personnel who have died in the war on terror.

The second annual 9-11 Memorial Tournament, played at a one-quarter size replica of Fenway Park, is beind held in honor of Marine Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen. The North Attleborough native was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan last October.

Half the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund. The other half will go to the Community Christian School in Westfield. Organizers hope to raise at least $10,000.  Eight teams, including some from out of state, are expected to participate and spectators are invited. Games were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
