Middleborough halts activities due to EEE

Middleborough town officials have canceled or rescheduled outdoors activities between dusk and dawn after Eastern equine encephalitis virus was found in a local man.

A statement from the town says the mosquito control program has been asked to continue with aggressive ground spraying, particularly in downtown and at sports fields and schools.

Rochester health director Karen A. Walega says that since the end of July officials in Marion and Rochester closed public parks, beaches and ball parks after 6 p.m. due to concerns over EEE.

She says an annual Rochester block party was rescheduled earlier to avoid ending late at night.
