13 year old drowns in Middleborough

MIDDLEBOROUGH — A 13-year-old Rhode Island boy drowned while swimming with other children in Tispaquin Pond yesterday afternoon.

The boy, apparently ventured pass the safety buoys.  Two off-duty firefighters were in the area when they were called to the scene.  About 30 minutes after going under, the boy was found and flown to Childrens Hospital in Boston, but he could not be revived.

The pond has no lifeguards. Signs are posted saying, "No lifeguards. Swim at your own risk.''
