A public funeral Mass is scheduled Wednesday for a New Hampshire GI killed in Afghanistan.

Twenty-three-year-old Sgt. Andrew Nicol, a U.S. Army Ranger from Kensington, died Aug. 8 after being wounded by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province. Nicol served five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned a Medal of Valor in 2008.

WMUR-TV reports that a private transfer ceremony was held Saturday at Pease Air National Guard Base.

On Tuesday, there’s a public wake scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Holy Family Parish, in Amesbury, Mass.

The mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial to follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
