Boston man facing arson charge

Authorities say a Boston man charged with one arson and suspected of starting two other fires, appears to have been setting blazes to settle grudges.

Jose Baez was held at an appearance in federal court on Tuesday pending a judge's decision on whether he should be granted bail.

Authorities, who had been tracking him for a year with a GPS device secretly attached to his car, arrested the 38-year-old Baez on Monday after his vehicle was located near a house fire in Roslindale. Baez allegedly had gambling disputes with some occupants. Police say he smelled like gasoline and had matches on him.

Baez is also a suspected of setting fires at a dental office and an auto body shop with which he had billing disputes.

Baez's lawyer says the evidence against him is circumstantial.
