The trial of a Boston mother facing a manslaughter charge in the accidental shooting of her 8-year-old son has gone into recess after the woman began weeping uncontrollably on hearing a paramedic recount how her child complained of pain during the last minutes of his life.

Lakeisha Gadson is charged in the 2007 death Liquarry Jefferson.

The boy was accidentally shot by his 7-year-old cousin as they played with a handgun they found in Gadson’s teenage son’s room.

Authorities say Gadson allowed the teenager to keep the unregistered gun in his dresser, where children could easily get to it.

Gadson says she did not allow her older son to own the gun and didn’t know it was in their home.

The boy who fired the gun also testified Tuesday, saying it was an accident.

Guns have no place in a home, not even lock and key.
It is unfortunate this mother was not aware that her teenage son had a gun in his dresser. Teens will rebel against parents and do as they choose, causing tragic incidents as this.
I’ve personally known two families where children played with guns that were supposedly locked away and out of reach from children – only to find they did “play” with the gun and cause unnecessary death.

Guns do have a place in a home. Just because someone can supply a couple of anecdotes about tragic incidents involving guns, does not mean that there are not tens of thousands of homes that have guns without any problems at all.
