RI leaders voice support for wind farm deal
Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri and the state's legislative leaders have written a letter in support of a wind farm project off the coast of Block Island.
Carcieri, House Speaker Gordon Fox and Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed wrote the state Public Utilities Commission urging the approval of a power purchase agreement between National Grid and Deepwater Wind. They say they believe Rhode Island has a chance to be a national leader in the offshore wind industry.
Despite criticism from Attorney General Patrick Lynch and others, the General Assembly this year passed a new law aimed at speeding the regulatory approval process for the proposed wind farm.
