Dorchester's John Howard in Action Sunday

UFC Welterweight John "Doomsday" Howard returns to the cage this Sunday night at UFC on Versus 2: Jones vs. Matyushenko.  He faces Jake Ellenberger on the main card that will air live and free on Versus.  Howard (14-4) is on a 7 fight win streak including a perfect 4-0 run to start his UFC career.  His UFC opponents? Chris Wilson, Tamdam McCrory, Dennis Hallman, and Daniel Roberts.  A fight with rival Anthony Johnson was schedule but could not happen due to injury.  But what could be next for Doomsday?

If Howard goes to 5-0 in the UFC's Welterweight division, the guy flat out deserves a fight with someone in the Top 15.  Coming up at UFC 117 Jon Fitch faces Thiago Alves and Ricardo Almeida takes on Matt Hughes.  A loser from that group could be next for Howard, again, if he wins on Sunday.  It's a huge fight for Howard, but at 27 years old, the future is certainly bright for this Dorchester native.

I was hoping Howard would be on the UFC 118 card in Boston.  At least we will all get a chance to see him on free tv a couple weeks before the Boston event.  There is no getting around it, this is a monster fight for Doomsday.  Jake Ellenberger has won 5 of his last 6 fights with his only loss coming to Carlos Condit in the UFC, and it was a split decision.
