A Mattapoisett man thanks three good samaritans for helping to save his life.

State police say 23 year old Michael Canty became trapped in his Jeep on route 195 in swansea early this morning, when the engine compartment burst into flames.

Braving the flames, Trooper Allyson Powell cut the seatbelt and freed Canty, pulling him out of the s-u-v with the help of three good samaritans.

Canty was pulled out moments before the Jeep became engulfed in flames.

The driver, who was rushed to the hospital, is in trouble with the law however. He faces charges of speeding, and operating under the influence.

Trooper Powell suffered minor injuries.
