Out of control dump truck in Woburn

A runaway dump truck has damaged several vehicles and utility poles, cutting power to a neighborhood as it rolled downhill on a Woburn street.

No one was injured, but wires were pulled down and three cars damaged Tuesday afternoon on Warren Avenue. The driverless truck came to rest at the intersection of Main Street, its tilted cargo bed entangled in utility wires. Power was cut to a nearby area that includes an elderly housing complex.

Police said the truck belonged to a subcontractor for a utility company that was doing paving work on the street.

Woburn Detective Ralph Coakley said the truck began to roll as the driver was behind it helping the work crew empty paving material from the truck bed.
