Lawrence cuts more firefighters
More troubles for the cash-strapped city of Lawrence.
23 firefighters have been laid off in the latest move by Mayor William Lantigua to balance the city’s budget.
The lay-offs include the demotions of several high-ranking fire officials along with the shuttering of engine house 9 on Bailey Street, the third firehouse to close since last April.
The cuts come after Tuesday’s failed attempt by the city and firefighters union to agree on concessions to keep firefighters working.
