Red Sox Are 1 GB In AL East

After sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers this past weekend, the Red Sox are now only 1 GB in the American League East. Felger and Mazz talked about the Red Sox turnaround on today's show.

Massarotti: "While the Red Sox were ripping off wins against the Diamondbacks and Dodgers, Tampa and the Yankees both lost 3 in a row, they got it down to 1. And I looked this up earlier, this whole stretch started the day after that blown save in New York that Papelbon imploded on. Since that blown save, the Red Sox are 24-8, the best record in the American League. Tampa's basically played .500, and during that stretch they have the highest average runs scored per game in the American League and they have the lowest ERA. Literally, they have had the best pitching and the best offense in baseball the last 32 games".

Felger: " The best pitching I totally get. They have the best pitching. I still think they have among the best pitching in the league even without Beckett. The offensive numbers are surprising. I mean, especially since you don't even have your full lineup".

Massarotti: "It's been a patchwork outfield pretty much all year long. They have gotten tremendous payback on guys like Nava, even Darnell McDonald who came up right away and won a couple of games for them. Journeymen guys who've came up and done the job for them".

At the beginning of the season it was looking like a write off year. But now, the Sox are only 1 game out of first and with 1 or 2 pieces added before the trade deadline, which is 40 days away, they can make  a serious run at another championship.

The Red Sox are off tonight, but travel to Colorado for a 3 game series with the Rockies.
