Bellator Lightweight Tournament Semi-Final Match-Ups Set

Bellator Fighting Championships held a press conference this afternoon at the Wang Theatre in Boston to announce the semi-final match-ups in the Lightweight Tournament.  Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez headlines the card against Josh Neer along with the final 4 in the 155 pound tournament, which all takes place in Boston on May 6th.

Semi-Finals to be held at the Wang Theatre:

Roger Huerta (21-3-1) vs. Pat Curran (10-3)

Toby Imada (24-13) vs. Carey Vanier (8-2)

(The winner of the tournament gets a title shot against Eddie Alvarez in the Fall.)

Huerta went 5-0 in 2007 fighting for the UFC.  The same year he became the only MMA fighter to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  He fought only once in 2008 (Loss to Kenny Florian) and once in 2009 (Loss to Gray Maynard).  He defeated Chad Hinton in the 1st round of the Lightweight Tournament via submission to advance to the semi-finals.

Curran was a late addition to the tournament and has made the most of it.  He knocked out Mike Ricci in hightlight reel fashion.  He is the cousin of veteran Jeff Curran.

Imada has the most experience of anyone left in the tourney with 37 professional fights, including this insane submission victory.

Vanier is a fantastic wrestler and TKO'd Joe Duarte in the 1st round of the Season 2 Lightweight Tournament.

The rest of the card, which features many local fighters, will be announced on Friday.

Tickets are on sale now, for the 1st MMA event in the state of Massachusetts.  Thursday, May 6th, at the Wang Theatre in Boston!
